Why Art Therapy?

Art Therapy places emphasis on self-expression, the insights you gain during the creative process and the meaning you make from your experience. It is less about creating a beautiful piece of art and more about applying therapeutic approaches for discovery of meaning the creative process can reveal.  

 Imagery holds different symbolic meaning to each person, individuals may create images that represent self, others or experiences in order to express emotions, gain deeper insight into their experiences, to explore new perceptions or to expand their capacity for growth.  

Art making, imagery and creative expression offers individuals with a safe container to externalise their inner experiences through objectifying their art. This can support individuals who are exploring challenging or difficult experiences by creating a safe distance from the issue and applying a lighter and more playful exploration in order to change their relationship with their inner experience. I work alongside individuals to explore and understand their personal experiences and the meaning that resonates with them from the images they produce.
